How to Pick the Right Dustless Floor Removal Company
When you are looking to hire a floor removal company, asking the right questions is so important. Especially when a company claims to offer “dustless” floor removal, we’ve heard many complaints from new customers who find us after they were lied to by other companies. Some companies advertise as “dust-free” floor removal, dustless and dust-free floor removal are not the same though, and companies are attempting to scam people. We urge you to do your research, below are a few questions that can assist you in making your decision.
1. How will the dust be extracted?
A true dustless floor removal company will have the proper equipment to remove the dust at the source of the floor removal using an industrial HEPA filter. If a company tells you they will be removing the dust using air scrubbers and fans, it’s not truly dustless! Air scrubbers and fans are good methods of dust removal when it comes to traditional floor removal, but they don’t even come close to the quality of dust removal that comes along with true dustless floor removal equipment and filters.
2. Will a riding floor stripper (rider) be used when removing the floor?
If a company claims to offer dustless services but says they are going to be using one of these machines, there trying to scam you. These machines are used for non-dustless traditional floor removal, and they work good for that type of job, however they create a big mess and lots of dust!
3. Once the floor is removed, what do you do with it?
If a company tells you they will use shovels to transfer the flooring debris or dust to some type of garbage container or bin with no extra steps to collect dust, move along, because the dust from the flooring will still seep out and permeate the air throughout your home. Instead, the flooring debris needs to be placed into some type of containment bin that is attached toa HEPA vacuum with proper HEPA filtration.
4. Which type of filters and vacuums are being used?
We have actually heard stories of companies who would attach HEPA filters to shop vacuums (think of one you’d find at a home improvement store) and call their service “dustless floor removal”, these kinds of vacuums are strong but they definitely doesn’t meet the quality and safety standards upheld here at Breathe Easy Floor Removal. We use industrial vacuums and the most innovative HEPA filters in the industry that remove 99% of the dust before it becomes airborne.
5. How do you get the adhesive or thinset up, once the flooring materials are removed and properly contained?
Although the floor removal is done, the thinset still will need to be removed, and believe it or not, this can be the messiest and dustiest part of the entire process, when done incorrectly that is. Thin adhesive can be more easily scraped away, but thicker thinset may need to be removed with special equipment that helps to chip and break it down. Often times, a piece of equipment known as a grinder is used to remove the thinset. In these cases, even the grinder needs to be attached to an industrial HEPA vacuum. If a company does not have the proper attachments or vacuum then this part of the process will certainly fill your home with unwanted, harmful dust. Once the thinset is ground down and removed, the slab below needs to be a smooth surface. The smooth slab will allow for the new floor to be properly installed.
